Banking And Cash

Advise your bank you are travelling overseas. Organise 2 methods of accessing money, ie, ATM card plus a credit card and keep your cards in separate places.

We recommend you bring some US$. They must be undamaged and not old. Travellers cheques are problematic and not recommended. The ATMs in Cambodia dispense US$ and ATMs are prolific in the big towns. ATMs in Vietnam, Thailand & Laos will dispense local Currency only.. Access to ATMs in Laos is limited.

Please note Cambodia does not accept $2 notes

Insurance:

If you are going to bring expensive electronic equipment, ensure you have these included on your insurance policy.

Communication:

Contact your mobile phone carrier to change your service to ‘roam’. If you wish to use a Cambodian SIM card you will need to bring a mobile phone that is not locked in to a local carrier. Phone calls with a SIM card are vastly cheaper than using an overseas SIM. You can buy a SIM from phone shop & we will have it ready for your arrival. Do not forget to pre-book this.

Family Photos:

Bring a small collection of family photos, as this is a fantastic way of interacting with the locals people. They love to meet your family. Documents: Bring a copy of your passport and details of your bank account and the bank’s hotline phone number. Also bring your insurance company and the hotline number.

What to Bring:

Pack light – over-packing can cause not necessary headaches and frustration. Don’t take your travel documents, medication or money in your checked luggage in case of luggage delays. Do not pack the documents, including your passport photo, for your Visa On Arrival in your checked in luggage. It is unnecessary to bring a rain jacket, as a western jacket is not effective in Asian rain. Inexpensive ponchos that protect your entire outfit are available here

Exploring:

Before hang out, make sure to take a hotel business card.

Most places today are also on Google Maps and the Khmer people have surprisingly good english skills if you need to ask for help.

Respectful dress:

When visiting the temples of Cambodia the locals will appreciate it if you dress respectfully, with your shoulders and knees covered. Wear long skirt/pants or trousers when visiting the temples and avoid singlets and strappy dresses. When visiting the main tower in Angkor Wat you will not be permitted access if your shoulders are uncovered. Before come in temples and homes, generally it is polite to remove your shoes.

Tipping:

Tipping is compulsory, because most people do work at the restaurant, hotel and driver get low salary.

For Example: Private full day tour from $10/person for guide and $2-4/ driver. Private half day tour from $5/person for guide and $1/person for driver. $1 for boat driver, porter, bus driver, cyclo driver , etc. Tipping at restaurants at your discretion.
